ATHLETE PROFILE - Colin Higgins - Wheelchair Basketball

In the fall of 2012, Colin Higgins endured a freak accident which resulted in permanent nerve damage and foot drop to his left foot. In the spring of 2014, he begrudgingly was introduced to wheelchair basketball with the Saint John club team and instantly fell in love with the sport. Since then, Colin has gone on to compete with Team NB at the 2015 Prince George Canada Games, and moved to Toronto in 2016 to begin training full time with the national program. Colin has represented Canada the previous 3 years internationally, bringing home a silver at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Colin has also ventured south of the border, having just completed his sophomore year at the University of Missouri where he goes to school and competes in the American Intercollegiate division for wheelchair basketball. While the national tournament may have been canceled this year, he was still able to bring home some hardware winning a 1st team All-American award.
