Get to know coach Ryan!
What does it feel like to be representing your country at the Paralympic Games?
Extreme pride and gratitude that I am in the position to do this. Very excited at the opportunity to learn everything that I can in order to bring the experiences back to NB, and also to demonstrate (in a very small way, as the athletes like Danielle do this the most) to other New Brunswickers that people from our region can have these opportunities.
Other than being named to Team Canada, what is your proudest moment so far?
I really do not have any one single moment that I can list here... life is a culmination of events that each individually have their own values & lessons to be proud of in their own way.
Who is your favorite sports hero?
As "cliche" as this sounds, it would be Michael Phelps. My first real memories as a fan of our sport (swimming) is of watching the 2004 USA Olympic Swimming Trials where Michael Phelps was pegged to excel.
What are you most looking forward to at the Paralympic Games?
The opportunity to be a part of the Canadian Team's opportunity to show to the world that we have persevered in the face of covid-19. More personally, I am thrilled to be able to be a spectator to my long-time athlete Danielle Dorris and her performances in Tokyo.
Are you superstitious? How do you like to prepare the day of your event?
Not superstitious at all... Preparation for the competition started the day that I learned I was becoming a member of the staff. Planning out every possible detail and scenario within the scope of my role is critical.
What is the one thing that you are bringing with you in Tokyo?
An open mind.
