Bridging the Gap
Since 1997, Bridging the Gap (BTG): Getting Physically Active has helped thousands of Canadians with physical disabilities experience the life-changing benefits of wheelchair sports. We believe that every Canadian deserves access to physical activity, whether they want to play recreationally or have Paralympic aspirations. From Have-a-Go Days to wheelchair loans, we’ll do whatever it takes to help people with disabilities discover their new favourite sport.
BTG is a program specifically designed to hep you become aware of the sport and recreation options available and to try out a wheelchair sport of your choice. The program currently promotes and supports wheelchair rugby, basketball, and tennis; however, if you are interested in trying something else, just let us know. We will make sure to direct you to the appropriate people and the proper organizations to provide this opportunity.
We will assist you in getting started by:
-
Explaining and setting-up the sport equipment to suit your needs
-
Providing transportation assistance to help you attend
-
Teaching you the fundamentals of the sport
A great starting point for an active lifestyle
Have-a-go days are community events that take place in collaboration with the Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Center and a variety of partners and clubs. They are the perfect opportunity to try a variety of sports! We rely on athletes and coaches to provide the expertise required to demonstrate and explain the sport in order to have a positive and fun experience. All the required sporting equipment is provided on site and the events are free of charge!
